A: For anything larger than a very small-scale installation, it is recommended to first start with a detailed drawn to scale landscape plan.
That plan will contain the information describing what the landscape will look like when completed. It is much easier and less expensive to make changes on paper, than to go back and make changes to a landscape built without a plan.
